The end-to-end technology transformation of Aras Kargo will set a great example for europe

"Peter Umundum, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Aras Kargo and Member of the Board of Directors of Austrian Post, the Chairman of the Vienna Economic Forum, made remarkable assessments of Turkey's strategic role and potential in the transformation axis of the economy. Umundum, who made the opening speech at the Vienna Economic Forum held in Istanbul, said that they found the technological transformation carried out by Aras Kargo, in which Austrian Post owns a majority stake, extremely impressive and that they are considering transferring it to the other group subsidiaries of the company in the future.

Peter Umundum, who came to Istanbul to make the opening of the Vienna Economic Forum, where economic cooperation and investment opportunities were evaluated together with senior representatives of the bureaucracy and the business world, and is also the President of the Vienna Economic Forum, underlined that the economy has undergone an amazing transformation and a new economic structure has been formed and noted that Turkey will play a very important role in the development of the regional economy in the new period with its knowledge, experience, and capacity. Umundum said that “We are in a period where we are witnessing an amazing change. We are entering a new era in the economy. At the Vienna Economic Forum, we focused on ideas on how the economy, as a driving force, will transform in this difficult and uncertain process and how it can support us in dealing with difficulties. The economic cooperation between Turkey and Austria has a long-established history. This relationship has always proceeded based on mutual respect and trust; on a line that focuses on doing better for the region, improving relations, and realizing the full potential. We are searching for new methods to maintain this cooperation more strongly and effectively.”

“Turkey's capacity will be decisive in the regional economy in the new period”

Stating that the relations with Aras Kargo are on a line that produces value, not only in the commercial dimension but also in terms of expertise, technology, and experience transfer, Peter Umundum said that “We see Turkey's strategic position as an important logistics base that allows us to develop imports and exports on a line extending from Central Europe to the Middle East and countries such as Azerbaijan. Austrian Post has been in the Turkish market since 2013. According to my personal experience, I can safely say that Turkey has very strong and promising knowledge, experience, and capacity. We have seen during this period we have spent in Turkey that, in addition to cultural interaction, the transfer of expertise and knowledge between the two countries has taken place very efficiently.

“The digital transformation of Aras Kargo will be a model”

Stating that they have taken some important steps to strengthen the cooperation between Turkey and Austria, Umundum said that “We have formed a board of directors consisting of managers of Austrian Post and Aras Kargo. In addition, the supervisory board of the Austrian team recently visited Turkey and held its board meeting here on the field. During this visit, they had the opportunity to examine the operation of Aras Kargo on the spot. We have witnessed quite impressive technological developments. We aim to transfer the technological transformation carried out here to our other group subsidiaries in the future.”

Speaking at the Vienna Economic Forum and evaluating the transformation of the delivery sector and e-commerce during the pandemic period, Barbara Hagen, the CFO of Aras Kargo, said that “During the pandemic period, the opportunity to make physical purchases, as before, was seriously restricted. This, in turn, led to a record business volume increase in e-commerce and, consequently, the delivery sector. During this period, there were days when we visited more than 2 million addresses in one day. Such periods bring opportunities for development and change along with difficulties. As Aras Kargo, we have also seen that the projects that we have implemented considering that we will need them in a much more distant future have turned into our biggest advantage during this period. The delivery sector is directly affected by local and international developments. We will continue to be positioned as a reliable business partner for e-commerce providers as well as for our other customers and all stakeholders who develop with us, as we have been until now thanks to the digital transformation.”
