As part of the coastal cleaning activities carried out in
collaboration with the DenizTemiz Association/TURMEPA, Aras Kargo has added a
new milestone to its sustainability efforts. Over 9 years, the company has
collected nearly 4 tons of waste across 20 different coasts, clearing an area
larger than a volleyball court. Most recently, Aras Kargo employees and TURMEPA
volunteers removed plastic, glass, metal, and household waste accumulated along
the shoreline in Riva.
As
Turkey's leading and innovative cargo company, Aras Kargo has been running the "Carrying
the Blue of the Sea to Tomorrow" project for 9 years. Through 20 coastal
cleanups across Turkey, the project has prevented nearly 4 tons of waste from
entering the sea—an amount that covers more than the area of a volleyball
court. Launched in 2016 with the voluntary participation of employees, the
cleaning efforts have spanned 19 different locations from Istanbul to Bodrum
and Samsun to Izmir. The collected waste was handed over to municipal teams to
be integrated into the recycling chain. Expanding this environmental movement,
the company—alongside TURMEPA volunteers—cleared nearly 102 kilograms of
plastic, glass, metal, and household waste from the Riva Gelara Bay.
‘We Will Continue to Take
Responsibility for Nature’
Billur
Burkutoğlu, Vice President of Marketing, Corporate Communications, and Customer
Experience at Aras Kargo, emphasized that they have created a voluntary
mobilization with their employees. She stated:
"At
Aras Kargo, we place sustainability at the heart of our business processes. In
line with our vision of ‘Carrying whatever is good and valuable today into
tomorrow,’ we wholeheartedly support environmentally friendly initiatives.
Through social responsibility projects powered by our employees' volunteerism,
we aim to increase environmental awareness and create social benefit. Within
the scope of our 'Carrying the Blue of the Sea to Tomorrow' project with
TURMEPA, we have prevented nearly 4 tons of waste from mixing into our seas
over 9 years. This effort equates to purifying an area larger than a volleyball
court. We crowned this meaningful endeavor with our cleanup at Riva Gelara Bay.
With every step, we act with future generations in mind, determined to leave
behind a cleaner, more livable, and sustainable world."
Eco-Friendly Vision,
Sustainable Futures
In
addition to environmental volunteer work, Aras Kargo pioneered the green
transformation in logistics by establishing Turkey's largest electric vehicle
fleet in 2011. As the first company in the industry to publish a sustainability
report and implement waste segregation and recycling processes, Aras Kargo aims
to reduce its carbon footprint by 2030. The company remains committed to
conducting all operations in accordance with environmental, health, social, and
economic sustainability principles.
